Biobased Organic Chemistry
We do fundamental research in organic chemistry using molecules and material that nature provides, the biobased building blocks. Our overall mission is to deliver clean, atom- and step-efficient one-pot syntheses for sustainable production of molecular diverse and structurally complex organic molecules tailored towards higher added-value in materials, medicines and catalysts.
Our research group is part of the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM), which is a research institute of Maastricht University (UM) located on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen. AMIBM conducts both fundamental and applied research to facilitate synergy between academia and industry.

Welcome Hannah Dernie: New Exchange Master’s Student from University of York!
Hannah Dernie is a master student from University of York, now she is doing her master thesis in our group. Her research is the production of microgels from o-methoxychitosan via an Ugi reaction. This has potential applications in areas such as pharmaceuticals and agriculture as the gels display encapsulating properties.
Welcome Theresa Herron: New Exchange Master’s Student from University of York!
We’re excited to welcome Theresa Herron to our team! She will be working on the Ugi multicomponent reaction for synthesizing beta-turn mimetic peptides.
Welcome Dr. Claudio Ferdeghini as a Postdoc!
Dr. Ferdeghini brings his expertise to the Circular Cultivation and Chemistry Project.
